What is Yohimbe and How does it work?:

Yohimbe is an herbal supplement that is made from the bark of the yohimbe evergreen tree in western Africa known as Pausinystalia yohimbe or Corynanthe yohimbe.  The yohimbe tree is a tall evergreen native to Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and the Congo. (A similar plant in South America is called Quebracho). For centuries, natives from these areas have ingested both the crude bark and purified compound as a tonic to enhance sexual prowess and as an aphrodisiac.

Yohimbe has been reported to contain up to 6% total alkaloids, 10-15% of which is yohimbine. In other words, a small percentage of a chemical called yohimbine is found in the bark of the yohimbe tree.  It is thought to stimulate the pelvic nerve ganglia and thus is helpful for men with erection problems. In fact a prescription drug, yohimbine hydrochloride, is the only FDA approved drug for impotence.

Some clinical studies have shown Yohimbe to be effective in restoring potency in diabetic and heart patients who suffer from impotency. (However, these studies were done outside the US). As an alpha-adrenoreceptor blocker, it reduces the effect of hormones that cause constriction of blood vessels, which typically increases as we age. It increases the body's production of norepinephrine which is essential in the formation of erections. It may also boost the adrenaline supply to nerve endings, which can quicken male sensual stimulation. It has been used in combination with ginseng and saw palmetto as a remedy for men with low sex drive.

Although Yohimbe is frequently used as an aphrodisiac (to stimulate sexual desire), it is often claimed to be beneficial for treating the following conditions:

• Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction (or ED)

• Sexual problems (in both men and women) caused by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor anti-depressants (SSRIs)

• Depression

• High blood pressure (hypertension) or low blood pressure (hypotension)

• Chest pain (angina).

Yohimbe can help quell anxiety by enhancing the effects of the natural release of adrenalin, according to findings at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. In response to physical and mental stress adrenaline prompts physiological changes associated with fear and anxiety such as increased heart and metabolism rates. Yohimbe outperformed propanolol, which is a medication used to blunt the physiological effects of adrenaline in order to treat symptoms of anxiety disorders.

Mechanism of action, how it works:

Yohimbe bark contains yohimbine, an alpha-2-adrenergic blocking agent which acts through the nervous system to increase blood flow to the genital region. Although many pharmacological properties of yohimbine have been described, at the plasma concentration attained at recommended dosages, in humans the predominant activity is antagonism of alpha 2-adrenoceptors. It is not clear whether the other alkaloids in yohimbe also have a pro-sexual effect.

Caution is advised when using a yohimbe supplement with medications prescribed for heart disease, high blood pressure, or any medication or herb that stimulates heart tissue to beat faster.

If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, simply return the unused portion (unfortunately we cannot process empty containers as returns) in original packaging with your invoice within 14 days from delivery date for a prompt refund less shipping.

2. Please contact us for authorization before returning product, unauthorized returns will be subject to a 15% restocking fee.

3. Only one opened item of the same product is eligible for return. All others of the same item must be in factory sealed original packaging for a refund.
